TORONTO - Weezer's Rivers Cuomo and members of Broken Social Scene, Bedouin Soundclash, Great Big Sea and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are among the musicians who will take part in a charity soccer tournament in Toronto on Aug. 22.
The tournament will pit musicians, athletes, media personalities and fans against each other to raise money for the charity Athletes for Africa.
Charity founder Adrian Bradbury says he's ecstatic to have Cuomo on board because it's sure to draw more fans to watch the event and contribute to the cause.
Proceeds will go toward a youth and cultural centre for sport, arts and reconciliation in northern Uganda, where war has ravaged the region for more than 22 years.
Other players include Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning, Bedouin Soundclash's Eon Sinclair, former MuchMusic VJs Rick (The Temp) Campanelli and Tony (Master-T) Young, and Sportsnet's Martine Gaillard.
