TORONTO - It'll be an East vs. West finale on "Canadian Idol."
Mitch MacDonald, a 22-year-old carpenter from Port Hood, N.S., and Theo Tams, a 23-year-old student from Lethbridge, Alta., will compete for this year's crown.
Drew Wright, a 28-year-old house painter from Collingwood, Ont., was eliminated from the show after receiving the fewest of almost four million votes cast this week.
Wright got the boot despite receiving praise from the judging panel during a Bryan Adams-themed show, singing "Cuts Like a Knife" and "I'm Ready."
MacDonald and Tams will now head to New York City for a workshop with Grammy-winner John Legend.
On next Monday's episode, they'll perform three songs: a selection chosen by the judges, one tune of their own choosing and the new "Canadian Idol" winner single.
For the first time, the Top 2 contestants will each perform different 'winner singles.' Once the "Canadian Idol" is named, his song will be released to radio stations.
The winner will be announced at the conclusion of a two-hour finale on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
The show will feature Legend and pop superstar Mariah Carey along with Canadian rockers Hedley, last year's 'Idol' champ Brian Melo, and 'Idol' mentor, R&B singer Jully Black.
This is the sixth edition of "Canadian Idol."
Male singers did extremely well this time around. Eight men and two women made it to the Top 10, which CTV said was the most uneven gender split yet for the final group.
