It did not take the group long to get noticed by record companies. The same year the group was formed they signed their first record deal with Mercury Records. They adopted the name Bon Jovi in honour of their lead singer. In 1984, the group launched their first self-titled album. The album was a hit and sold more than 500 000 copies in the United States. The group became known around the world and the album was distributed in the U.K. Bon Jovi started doing concerts and were doing opening acts for groups such as Kiss and Scorpions.
The group started working on their second album and in 1985 released 7800° Fahrenheit. This album was not as successful as they expected, and Bon Jovi decided to start working right away on a third album. Slippery When Wet came out in 1986.
The album Slippery When Wet had a huge impact on the music scene. The singles You Give Love a Bad Name and Livin’ On a Prayer were played on the radio all the time. The album sold more than 25 million copies and the American rock group was on their way to becoming very famous. In 1987, Bon Jovi won an award at the MTV Video Music Awards for Best Stage Performance.
In 1988, Bon Jovi released the album, New Jersey. It was a big seller and the singles Bad Medicine and I’ll Be There For You went to the top of the charts. Bon Jovi did a concert series for 18 months around the world. During this time difficulties arose within the group and in 1989, the members of Bon Jovi decided to go their separate ways. Jon Bon Jovi decided to work on his solo career during this time. He did the soundtrack for the movie Blaze of Glory, for which he won a Golden Globe Award.
After each member did some work on their own, they decided to make a comeback as a band, and in 1992 released the album, Keep the Faith. The response from the fans was positive and the album was certified platinum in the United States. Three singles from the album were top 40 hits. In 1994, Bon Jovi released a greatest hits album, Cross Road.
Less than one year later Bon Jovi released the album, These Days. The album received critical acclaim, but did not have the sales expected. After a string of concerts, touring and promotions, the album was finally noticed and the single This Ain’t a Love Song was considered the most popular song of that period.
In 1995, Bon Jovi won a World Music Award for the most albums sold. Shortly after that, the group split up for the second time. For the following three years, Jon Bon Jovi went in a different direction, acting in cinema and television. He also released another solo album, Destination Anywhere. The other band members kept themselves busy with many artistic endeavours.
In 1999, fans were thrilled to have the group reunite and release their seventh studio album, Crush. The single It’s My Life was a huge hit, and the 1980s rock group was able to attract a new generation of fans. The Crush tour was a huge tour of 60 shows around the world. In 2001, this new popularity enticed the group to release One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001. It had Bon Jovi’s best live performances from the beginning of their career.
After selling millions of albums and a comeback to the stage with the Crush tour, Bon Jovi released Bounce in 2002. This album was not very successful. In 2003, the band released an album with twelve of their biggest hits, This Left Feels Right. This same year Bon Jovi did a boxed set entitled 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong which contained four CDs and one DVD in honour of their 20th anniversary.
In 2004-2005, there was a tribute to Bon Jovi at the American Music Awards and World Music Awards for their entire career and the 100 million albums sold around the world.
In 2005, the single Have a Nice Day played non-stop on American radio stations, and the group then released an album with the same name. It sold rapidly and the group did another world tour in 2006.
After 2500 shows in 50 countries, Bon Jovi released their latest album to date. Lost Highway came out in 2007 and within the first couple of days was number one in more than five countries. The hit You Want to Make a Memory was in the top 100 in the United States. During the summer of 2007, Bon Jovi did another international tour and also performed for the concert Live Earth. The same year the group won a Grammy for the Best Country Collaboration for Who Says You Can't Go Home. In the fall, the group returned to their hometown in New Jersey to do 10 shows. In 2008, the unstoppable group will be travelling all around the world to promote their album, Lost Highway.

All right, classic rockers to this side of the room, the rest of you, subscribe to NME. The mag trashes Wolfmother - who, granted, sound like old-school Black Sabbath and Led Zep - as "Australian mock-rockers." Fans were worried that Wolfmother would self-destruct with the 2008 departure of bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett.
