Faced with the daunting task of recording street-real hip-hop while starring in Hollywood blockbusters, Mos Def takes the high and hard road, spelling out his intentions from the album's opening moments, sampling Malcolm X's 1964 assertion that "we're living in a time of revolution... of change." To that end Mos Def shuns the radio rap sound while unabashedly borrowing, in true hip-hop style, from forms as disparate as rock, show tunes, Afro-beat or Latin, the album following the emerging blueprint for independent hip-hop: short tracks with distorted samples and tinny drum kits cover bpms and rhythms that range all over the board, while MCs' voices dominate the mix. more

(bum) - Ky-Mani Marley, one of Bob Marley’s sons and member of the group The Marley Brothers, is currently working on two albums set for a release in early 2010. For the Jamaican-born artist who was raised in the United States, reggae is not his only source of inspiration. His music is a mix of hip-hop, R&B, rock and acoustic.
