The guitar-slinging Damien Rice’s 2002 release, O, propelled him to fame in his native Ireland (the album is almost double-platinum there), and was met with critical acclaim worldwide. His timeless melodies are the vehicle for lyrics touching on love and loss, his expressive delivery and tasteful accompaniment speaking straight to the heart. After attaining moderate success with the group Juniper in Ireland, it was Rice’s solo effort that brought him to the world stage. “The Blower’s Daughter”, Rice’s first single, went almost immediately to the Top 20 and had radio audiences pining to find out more about this mysterious Irish phenomenon with a knack for wearing his heart on his sleeve. After touring the world in support of O, audiences found that Rice was not only incredible on record, but a dynamic and emotional performer and storyteller, capable of having a crowd in hysterics and on the verge of tears at the stop of a dime. Upon his visits to Montreal, Rice has scored extra points with his fans by weaving in and out between English and Parisian French with ease. Now touring in support of his latest album, 9 (who’s track “9 Crimes” was featured in the wildly popular ABC series Grey’s Anatomy), Rice will appear with his full band at Osheaga on September 8th. Get ready for a performance that promises to be memorable, and be prepared to let out a few laughs (and maybe even shed a few tears) as one of today’s modern masters of song and storytelling shares his tunes and tales with the Osheaga crowd.
